understanding gestures through assistivetouch

my lock button finally stopped working all together after months of half-working so I started using assistivetouch to help with screenshots and locking it. can someone explain to me the gestures option?

I was under the impression you could create a gesture to open up an app but I then realized that's a tweak if you're jailbroken.

Not sure if you still need this information but it may help others. The buttons under Device>More of the assistive touch do exactly what they say they do. As for the custom gestures I feel this video may explain 🙂.
