Well, I got Tiger for my 1GHz G4 PowerMac Sawtooth (upgraded) with a 64 Mb ATI Radeon 9000 Pro video card and 1.5 Gb RAM, and I must say it's disappointing. Scrolling in all apps is MUCH slower than Panther, and even the genie effect is noticably affected. I thought these things would be OK with Quartz Extreme running them, but they're not. Am I doing something wrong? Can I turn something off to fix this problem? The slow scrolling speed is really annoying when working in large documents. Maybe I just have to get another video card. Oh I should mention I cleaned off my hard drive before installing Tiger. Help guys.

Something's not right. Tiger's been scrolling and the such just fine for me. Any other changes made apart from the OS?

No. And like I said, I erased my HD before I installed- I find that's usually best to get good performance. Now I'm really hesitating to put it on my iBook G4.

Well, I don't know what it is. Scrolling is PAINFUL, especially in Safari and QuarkXpress. With Panther, it was smooth as glass.

Any chance the problem is caused by your processor upgrade?

Yeah, you might be right there, I remember reading before that Tiger doesn't support processor upgrade cards.

Hmmm...maybe I should just go back to Panther. But it seems to me that it would be even worse if it was the upgrade. I suppose it's possible. I'll check the Sonnet website for updates.

Hey- maybe this is it. When I started Tiger for the first time, I had it pull all of the info off my iBook (apps, preferences, etc.). Maybe I should have just reinstalled everything manually. Could that have made a difference?

heck yes!@# a clean install is ALWAYS best. I never do anything but clean installs and in turn I have no issues. I have a franken mac also and it runs tiger very well.

Well the Tiger install was a clean install. But I guess I didn't think pulling things off the iBook afterward would cause a problem. I guess I'll start over then. I'll let you guys know what happens. Thanks.

If your system is running well beforehand, I think an Archive and Install is just as good. I've A&Ied Tiger on 3 Macs now without problems on any of them. And it's far quicker than a clean install when you take into account reinstalling all your applications and configuring all your preferences etc. I work on the principle that if there's a problem with the A&I, I can always go back and do a clean install and I've wasted less than an hour. Whereas if I go the clean route, it's likely to take me an additional 3 or 4 hours to reinstall all my software etc

Unfortunately, it looks like I'll be doing a clean install again. But if it fixes my problems, it's worth another four hours.
