What was your old monitor? A green-on-black Apple IIe type? Oh, and old PB. That's probably faded quite a bit from when it was new just FYI.

The dimmest is hardly viewable. Sunglasses are your best bet :cool::cool:

Edit: Tell your roomates to get some shades, lol

Hey now, I even keep the screen on my *PowerBook* turned down a bit :p

Not all of us like insanely bright screens :)

I've got the same screen number and it's not "too" bright. It's pretty nice. I have the brightness at about half. If I put my thumb over the light sensor next to the camera, it dims quit a bit. Maybe you could put a piece of black tape or something over the sensor?

I have the sensor turned off.....it's only in complete darkness that the screen is too bright.

Have you tried any of the software options myself and other posters have mentioned? I'm wondering if you missed our posts as you seem to be still trying to find a solution. I use "shades" for my iMac and it's great.

Well it seems like you've already solved your problem but I've found that inverting the colors on the screen actually helps sometimes in the dark. "Control-Option-Command-8"

This is basically the same as what a Garmin GPS unit does when it switches to Night mode.
