Unibody: Does lid open provide better ventilation?

I game on bootcampe rather seriously, i have been havign overheating issues, and recently began controlling my fans via smc in osx and restarting into vista, its helps. I play on an external setup and im wondering if leaving the lid open provides better ventilation?

Yes it does. There is a slight improvement in temperature when watching videos so it should be the same if not better for gaming when the computer is being under heavy load.
