uninstalling and reinstalling osx software...

Hello room....how do i go about doing this?

It appears that i am missing some icons/applications folders in my finder.

for instance, i cannot find applications or utilities..thought i would start all over and go back to default configurations...bad idea? any help out there?

Pop in your OSX install disc.
Restart your Mac, hold down the C key to boot from the optical drive.
Follow the instructions to install and choose Archive and Install.
This will not erase your data.
