In the future when virtual reality becomes more sophisticated the iPhone will be able to replace flying anywhere altogether.

Timing

Apple with finally catch up with their production mid 2015? What kind of nonsense is that? Just in time to become obsolete in a couple of months for the 6 PlusS?

Give them the worthless 16 Gig models. I don't even know why Apple bothered producing them.

I know what you're saying, and it may be to upsell to the 64/128GB models. The line on opening day, most of the people around me wanted the 64GB models. I know that I will have it for at least 2 years, and 128GB is the only way to go, as adding memory to these things takes too much time with the micro-soldering iron.

"They can also play games, check Facebook and Twitter, and basically do everything to avoid dealing with annoying passengers. We will even throw in some Beats noise-cancelling headphones so they can drown out the sound of crying babies that just won’t shut up."

Actually, the phones can be configured by Apple to fit the Enterprise Configuration.

My Eldest Son is an Engineer in a North East Fab. They have 6's as work phones.
There are limitations. However, I am not privy to the limitations. :apple:

And since the iPhones will apparently be United Airlines property, the airline can track their flight attendants location without their permission!

Its rude to talk poorly of that giant handed lady!!!

This is their silent indication that all workers with small hands will not be able to use the 6 Plus and will eventually quit out of frustration or be terminated from their position. This is unlawful activity and United Airlines needs to stop these cruel crimes against humanity. ;)

Instead of updating EWR with iPads they should bring their LGA terminal up to standard - how about replacing the plastic foils and buckets not he ground with a water tight roof for starters (no joke)? That terminal is a disgrace for the airline and NYC.

I heard they are the worst airline? I keep reading twitter rants about their services on Twitter and it's hilarious

What a waste of such a powerful device for accessing manuals and "retail transactions"

PR stunt

SERIOUSLY???? And Microsoft doesn't do this in the NFL? Every corner of the football fields and sidelines and every sports show has the cuddly and fuzzy little Surface toy all propped up on it's fuzzy little kick stand. I'm 99% certain it's not really the "preferred" tablet of the NFL, but Microsoft would like you to think so. ;)

Hopefully they are not distracted with having these iPhones 6 Pluses. :|

United Airlines has been an eager adopter of Apple technology in the past, becoming one of the first airlines to distribute iPads to pilots to replace heavy flight bags of navigational charts and other flight materials in 2011.

United may be "one of the first", but American was THE first.

On December 9, 2011, American became the FIRST airline in the world to receive FAA approval to use iPads in all phases of flight. On June 24, 2013, American completed the rollout, becoming the first major airline to fully implement iPads in all phases of flight in all cockpits across their entire fleet.

just FYI

Why iPhone and not an iPad mini if they will not use any cellular aspect of the phone?

These phones used by the flight attendants are not just for in-flight.

A lot of them are used for geo-tags to see the location of an flight attendant in town when to make sure they say within a specific distance of an airport for response time if they are on stand-by crew.

Also, there is a lot of equipment on an airliner that is crew-use only including FAA approved micro-cells with satellite communications.
