I have an M1 11" iPad Pro and a 16" M1P MacBook Pro. I've been having a lot of fun with Universal Control since updating to the latest OS versions, however soon I've noticed an unusual battery drain when the iPad was not in use. Just recently, it discharged from 25% to 1% overnight. The Mac has been off with lid closed at the time.

Disabling "Cursor and Keyboard" in Handoff options seems to fix this problem, but I would like to continue using Universal Control, as I love this feature in general. I understand that UC could be a battery heavy feature while in use, but I wouldn't expect it to have such an impact on the battery life when the iPad's screen is off.

Is this normal? Does anyone else see a similar issue on their devices?

As you mentioned, you can disable it if Universal Control is not needed.
And enable when it's required.

I noticed this also. But equally, when I started using Universal Control, I noticed my System Data went through the roof temporarily.

Thank you. It’s good to have another data point.

That’s what I’ve been doing so far, though it’s obviously would have been nice to find a better solution, as transparency is the UC’s biggest advantage.

I found this older post when searching for my issue. I have an M1 iPad Pro 12 inch and an M1M MBP 16. I use the iPad as an extended display (I think this is technically called Sidecar and is part of Continuity, as is UC). My iPad is plugged into the MBP and the MPP is plugged into wall and a dock with 2 other monitors. Even with the iPad plugged in and everything on, the iPad slowly (slower than normal use without being plugged in) drains it's battery. It does show charging from the MBP.

I haven't been able to find anything online about this so far and was wondering if this is normal behavior, though I can't imagine it's intended by Apple. Am I doing something wrong?

The issue still exist...I'm not able to find a solution on the web. Do you have any idea? I tried to reset the iPad and the charge works but after a wile it stops again.
