When Universal Control is enabled on my Mac my iPad display is always on, it doesn’t let it auto power off. Disable UC and it immediately starts working again, turning off on a timer as expected.

Is this a bug on my setup or is it a feature? I’ll be surprised if it’s a feature because I haven’t seen anybody mention it anywhere. I would have thought it would be an obvious problem for many users that reviewers should have thought to point out.

Would probably be better to have an option to just temporarily turn off the display or backlighting if left idle for a specified time. You can't have it continue to go to sleep as per the usual schedule or it will require unlocking again the next time you roll the cursor off screen.

I think of this as a feature. I would not want the iPad display to sleep if I'm actively working on the system that's controlling it. When my Mac goes to sleep the iPad screen will sleep, however.

I guess this is a dilemma.

In my case, my iPad Mini and iPad Pro are used in Universal Control mainly for interacting in iMessage, Messenger and Line running on them (and I don't want to install them on any of my Macs).

In this scenario, I want the iPads to sleep as usual, but no, the Mac keeps them awake and consuming battery. And if I put iPad into sleep manually, Mac won't be able to wake them up by pushing mouse pointer against the desktop boundary (though when you tap the iPad to turn on its display, the connection will be reestablished in a blink; but, if iPad's display was turned on temporarily by new notification, the UC connection may or may not be able to reestablished in time).

Half baked feature, the very style of Apple S/W led by Craig Federighi.
