it certainly is kinda busted if both accounts are logged in at the same time. I have a family imac and a personal MBA. if the imac has a backgrounded user session, UC never connects. As soon as I switch users, and log the other user out, bang, it connects. Of note, UC will even work on the sign in screen, so I think Apple both over and under thought this.
Aha! I had a suspicion about this. I'm rarely only ever logged into one account, so probably I won't get to use this feature unless they fix it. Really a shame.

Multi-user support is pretty weird in MacOS. I had a devil of a time trying to get my AirPods Max (which are paired to my main, personal Apple ID) to work with my Mac when I switched over to the account logged in with my work Apple ID.

My main issue with Universal Control is that both Mac devices need to be awake. I want a feature which allows me to use my keyboard and mouse across 2 Macs and they don't need to be both running. I will keep repairing my input devices twice a day.

It keeps my iPad from going to sleep (or locking) once it's connected to my Mac, which was actually a nice surprise.

Same experience with my MacBook Pro and iPad Pro since it launched. Every couple days it will just refuse to connect when I try to drag the cursor over to the iPad. The only workaround was to reboot the MacBook.

Hopefully they’ve fixed it with this version.
One workaround that does not require a reboot is to open activity monitor and force quite the universal control process.

I found that disconnecting the Keyboard + Mouse, then reconnecting from the main computer works as well.

It’s very cool but of limited use to me personally. Call me when I can use it to remotely login to my Mac from my iPad in any room in the house.

Yes, it also attempts to keep my second Mac from falling to sleep which is a good thing. I am attempting to use Universal Control again. This morning I turned on my work laptop, forgetting about the feature, and re-paired the mice and keyboard. Then when I needed to access something from my laptop, I opened it up and just moved my cursor over. It seems UC works even if you re-pair or switch radio channels from the host Mac to the secondary Mac when the host Mac is not available. This kind of amazing and gives me hope I can keep this feature turned on. I will see can I perform a switch back to the host now...

Has anyone gotten this to work while running a VPN? Did not seem to like Cisco AnyConnect.

Edit: Private Internet Access VPN works, so maybe its some other security setting when Cisco AnyConnect is turned on that blows up Universal Control.

Out of curiosity what keyboard are you using? I know some generic Windows-centric keyboards have wonky key mapping. I have the built in MBP keyboard, a Logitech MX Keys bluetooth keyboard and an iPad Magic Keyboard and all work fine.
Same keyboard as you! I’m gonna try out 15.5 as well as the recommendations in accessibility that people have recommended. Will see if it helps :)

I use AnyConnect for our corporate VPN on my Windows work laptop. Given that there are all sorts of security requirements it wouldn't surprise me if your company (or the app) set up a block that prohibits other devices from controlling or receiving input sources from the AnyConnect-equipped machine. This would prevent key loggers and similar concerns.
