I dont think you Mac can get any viruses;) , but im not sure what you mean my danger.

danger

what i meant was that the firewall is on for a reason and thats to protect the mac, if its turned off then its nothings being protected.

anyway azureus isn't doing very well, currently connected to 2 out of 92 seeds with an amazing download speed of 5.1kps.
with transmission it was hitting 400 kps, only reason i wanted this was to choose which files from the torrent i wanted.
think i'll have to just download the whole thing and delete what i don't want.

I am new to macs. Can anyone tell me how to set up Azureus on the MAC? I have a router and set a range of ports as it describes in the router guide. But when I test any of the ports, I get a fail, or unable to connect. Also, where is "Tools"? I read a lot about port forwarding, but not sure if I really understand it and am doing it right.

Thanks.

Does it not just work without any configuration? I'm behind a router and I've never had to do any port forwarding.

It seems to work...dnlds are slow tho, and I've only seen the little "orange ball" turn green once. My router is not hooked up directly to the mac. It is hooked to a pc along with the modem, and I connect via airport. Does that make a difference?

Terrible Downlod Speeds

Hi I just started using Transmission a little while ago, and I was getting downloads speeds of 140kb/s, but now I'll be lucky to get anything over 0kb/s. I haven't changed anything. Any reason why this would happen?

I use azureus and haven't had any problems with it. I had a friend that had some strange firewall issues he had to clear up before it would start. Don't know exactly what he did to get it going though.

My version of Transmission has a bug where if you enable the preference to delete torrent files, it deletes them before the download and then just sits there at 0 KB/sec. (Dumb, I know.)

On the other hand, you could have a crappy ISP who throttled your bandwidth once they saw you using Bit-torrent.

I use a rogers cable modem. So Rogers would be my ISP?

Yes.

According to numerous reports online, Rogers has been experimenting with limiting or blocking bit-torrent traffic. Yeah, they suck; switch to Shaw or whoever your local competitor is if you can.

You could also try Azureus, because I think it can do encryption to fool some bit-torrent throttling methods.
