Just a quick question: Can you set view options that will take effect all across OS X? For example, I want every folder to have the icons "snap to grid", but it seems I have to manually set this in every folder.

Is there anyway to set this somewhere once, and it will take effect in all folders?

In the view options window in icon view mode there is the Use as Defaults button that sets the defaults for all icon view. Unfortunately snap to grid is not an option...

You will find that somethings (usually dmgs and some game folders) will completely ignore this rule, not matter what you set it to be. You then have to modify those folders individually. Toast 8 Titanium is notable for doing this.
