I have not seen this before, but there is a desktop computer under the "shared" tab in Finder. When i click more info it shows a picture of an old computer. Can i get some help on how to remove this? thank you

It looks as if you are on a network that you are not familiar with. Is this a private / home network or a public network?

If private - has someone connected to your network that shouldn't in which case that will need dealing with. If not would not worry.

If public and you don't need to share and want to increase you security (this includes all sharing e.g. iTunes & printers as well as screen and file sharing)
goto Apple menu -> system preferences -> Security and privacy and then clicking the Firewall tab
1. ensure firewall is on (this should be the default setting, but isn't!!)
2. by clicking the firewall options button click the check box which says block all incoming connections (this will stop the sharing services)

Will this stop the computer appearing in your sidebar - NO. However if you are in an environment where there are unknown connections on your side of a router it will make you safer.

To just hide this and all other shared computers you can hide the list bu clicking to the right of the word shared on the sidebar.

This is likely just an external digital source such as a printer, scanner, phone (other than an iPhone) or other device that uses some form of wired or wireless networking. The reason it shows up as an "old computer" is that you don't have the driver installed to work with it. This is very common with printers on wireless networks, etc. If it isn't yours, it probably belongs to a close neighbor with a wireless network.
