This one has got me stumped so I figured I’d ask people here. There is a credit (refund) for approximately $150 on one of my credit cards. On the description it says “APPLE.COM/BILL 866-712-7753 CA”. I called the number and it’s an automated number for Apple billing with no option for live customer service.

I called my credit card company and they said it’s a credit from a merchant and there’s nothing they can do. They said if it was an unauthorized charge, I could dispute it, but there’s nothing they can do for a merchant credit. I’ve never used this card to purchase anything from Apple. My Apple purchases go to my Apple Card.

Has anyone had this happen to them? I’m not sure what to do so any advice would be great. It’s a small amount so I’m not too worried, but it’s annoying that a transaction on my card is there that shouldn’t be there.

To the forum mods, sorry I didn’t know where this one should go. It’s about Apple billing, but not on the Apple Card. Feel free to move or delete it if you have to.

Saw this news earlier. Could that be it?
I got that email yesterday.

Dear Customer,

Our records indicate that you are eligible for a refund associated with your AppleCare+ agreement #, for the MacBook Air (M2 2022) you returned or traded in.

To receive your refund of $9.89, contact Apple Support.

Sincerely,
Apple Support

I got the same email about AppleCare for $28.57. I guess I should contact Apple since I’m sure the reason they’re sending the emails instead of issuing refunds is they hope either the email won’t be noticed or go to spam.

I don’t think this is related unless I got someone else’s AppleCare refund. I’ve never used this card with Apple. I know Apple has lots of data but I don’t think or at least I hope they can’t look up my cards by my name 😂

I got that email last week about AppleCare for about $30, then noticed two additional credits on my Apple Card. It would have been nice to get emails for those too.

Earlier this year I noticed I was still paying for apple care on a phone I traded in last year and I had to call and get transferred and transferred and transferred to get that refunded.

wow. I just got the emails for the other two. I don't know how to feel about that.

Just an update I just received an email saying that amount was credited to “the payment method associated with your Apple Account” for AppleCare on an iPhone 13 Pro Max I traded in. This email is 15 days after the credit to my account.

Just to clarify, this is a different email about a different AppleCare refund amount. The other one said I had to contact them. This one says they refunded it.

I went back to my statements online and can’t find any charges from Apple on that card. This card is not one of my payment methods. It’s slightly possible it might’ve been a long time ago, but not currently. Maybe Apple knows more about us than we realize 😂

I have a feeling there’s either some legal issue going on where people are getting charged for AppleCare after trading in an iPhone or they’re just preemptively taking care of it before it happens.

I remember being late to cancel AppleCare, but I didn’t ask for a refund because I felt it was my fault and it wasn’t that much money. It’s like if you don’t call the insurance company and tell them you sold your car they’ll keep charging you for insurance. Maybe you could get a refund in that situation as well but I’m not sure.

my emails were also about 15 days later.

They need to make cancelling Apple Care part of the Trade-In checklist. I usually do mine in-store and THEY should definitely make sure it's cancelled. Maybe they had an auto-cancel built in somewhere and didn't notice that it was dropped somewhere along the line. Or maybe there was a lapse in when it kicked in leaving lots of customers with refunds on partial months.

The emails seem to be lagging the refunds. Two weeks ago I got a mystery refund of $3.91 to my Apple Card. Today I got an email saying that I was getting a $3.91 refund on AppleCare+ for my traded-in Apple Watch Series 6.

Interestingly, they refunded it to my Apple Card, though I had been paying from my Apple Account balance. Because they refunded to the Apple Card, they charged me 12¢ for the 3% credit I would have gotten if I had actually used the Apple Card (which I didn't).

Hey Apple - you owe me 12¢! :)

Though, IIRC, the deal when I cancelled was no partial refunds unless you call Apple. And I wasn't willing to make a phone call for <$4. So I don't know why they feel compelled to start making these refunds now.

The emails are definitely lagging behind the refunds. I noticed that my Apple Card was credited $3.20 a couple weeks ago from Apple. I had no idea what it was for, but with insignificance of the amount, I didn’t really make much of it. Fast forward to Monday, I received an email from Apple regarding the $3.20 refund for AC+ I had on an old iPad. Go figure.

There should be some requirement saying if a company is going to charge or credit your account they have to notify you at the time. Maybe there is but IDK. In this age of scams and fraud any unrecognized transaction worries me. I know credit cards have protection but I don’t want to deal with the madness.

Now I have a $150 credit from Tesla on one of my cards with no explanation 🤦‍♂️😂

I’m not as concerned because at least I’ve used the card recently with them. With the Apple situation I went back through the two years of statements available online and I didn’t see anything so it had to be before that.

On the description it says “APPLE.COM/BILL 866-712-7753 CA”.

I just checked and my last iCloud bill was in that same format with the same number, so it does seem legit.

This screenshot is from the Bank of America VISA statement.
