Hi there,

just two days ago I noticed that some of my files (*.plst, *.ppt, etc.) where missing their Icon. I mean only filename and no Icon visible in the finder (attached image).

I have the notion that it is the default Icon for the Unknown File Type that is somehow gone.

I have the same problem even if I create a new user and log in from there. I have also rebuilt the launch services database and restored default file associations.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That is really weird, it seems the default document icon is missing (that's what it'll be called).

Yeah, I couldn't find anything on the net as of yet. Seems to be some really freakish thing that happened.

Any idea where the icon file for the default document icon resides on the Mac?

I solved it: Cleaned out the kernel caches in Cocktail.

They are unchecked by default when cleaning the caches in Cocktail, which I didn't know when I tried that at first.
