Unknown imei unlock???

Hi, I've brought an iPhone 5 from someone who said it was an unwanted upgrade. Locked to Vodafone UK. He has given me his details but is no longer with Vodafone. I have tried to unlock using their online NUC form but received a reply saying that it was unverified. I have spoken to them and they are not willing to unlock it.

Does anyone know of any ways I can get the phone unlocked? My concern is whether Vodafone would not allow it if I tried a 3rd party company online.

Look for IMEI unlocks online. eBay has some places that still do.
