Basically, I have had unlimited data since I have had my 3g. I upgraded to the 4S, and I have the option of keeping my unlimited (as I have the 4 and 3gs) or going with the 5gb with tethering option for 38$ instead of 50$ due to FAN discount. So my question, is due too the throttling that they do now, is it really worth keeping unlimited? Or to go with an option that will allow me to tether, without worrying about att catching on to using MyWi, or whatever? The problem I have now, is that the area I am in really sucks service wise, so I wind up using wifi anyways at work, or home, but I will be moving to southern FL in the summer. I don't know if we are going to get anywhere with the fight on the whole throttling issue or not. So, should I be patient? or pay the extra $8 a month for a guaranteed 5gb at a consistent speed, with the option to tether?
If you don't need it there's no reason to keep it. I laugh at all these "you never know when you'll need it" excuses. You're just putting more money in AT&T's pockets (well were, since they did away with the 2GB option). It all depends on what you need. If you use 3GB+ then switch, if not then keep it.
I'd keep the unlimited until you move. Better safe than sorry. On a side note, I called verizon and asked them to move me from Unlimited to a 2GB, unthrottled plan and they pretty much said "No!"
I understand your struggles. I'm in the same situation regarding the FAN discount. However, I decided to keep my unlimited data in the hopes that they'll raise the throttling limit once the LTE-enabled iPhone comes out. Maybe 15GB? One can hope. Until then, I've come close but haven't actually been throttled on 3G yet.
I have AT&T and Verizon unlimited plans, good thing Verizon does not throttle 4G lte. They only perform network optimization on 3G devices.
This is the reason I'm staying with my VZW unlimited, no throttling on LTE. Not that I'm a data hog, but I like the option of being one if I so choose.
Subjective as any question of worth is on any topic. You haven't provided enough info about your needs/wants in your OP for anyone to attempt to begin to make recommendations. I'd suggest waiting. You'll want to use the carrier that meets your coverage needs.
