Unlock 05.12.01?

My friend has an iPhone 3G on 3.1.x with 05.12.01 bb. I am going to upgrade it to 4.2.1 and jb it. Any way to save the bb? Is the 05.12.01 bb unlockable? I don't have access to a windows machine by the way.

Yes, you would use ultrasn0w; I recommend you go up to 4.3.1 and unlock it.

oops sorry thought it was 3GS for some reason.😎
since it's a 3G maybe leave it on 3.X since I have heard many people complain on 4.X for the 3G and don't know if it works as good as it does on 3.X now.
