Hi guys, I did a fresh install of iOS 12 on iphone 8 and now I have this one problem:

iphone is locked and I want to unlock and open it with one home button press. What is weird that, 1 out of 10 presses works. Other than that it just unlocks the phone, but doesn't open it.

I know there is a accessibility setting for that does exactly this thing, but I don't want to enable it.

Do you have any idea where is the problem?

UPDATE:
I found out that pressing half of the button with tip of my finger works.

If you pull the finger off the button a little too quick, before the lock screen scrolls away, you get that. I can reproduce easily.

Unfortunately, only option to sorta change that is the Accessibility option you mention.

Cannot do that your way. But I'have just figured out that I can do that by pressing half of the button with tip of my finger. Interesting...

If there is a setting that allows essentially what you are looking for, why wouldn't you want to enable it, if that's what you want?

My notifications are hidden when the phone is locked and sometimes I just want to read them from the lock screen without opening the phone. (I press the power button and touch the home button for unlocking and showing content of notifications). If I enable that feature, it will automatically open the phone.

In that scenario that makes sense. In that case the first press on the home button (if the screen isn't on already) won't unlock the phone. Not really sure you can have it both ways basically as one conflicts with the usability of the other.

My iPhone always unlocks & opens from sleep with one home button press and I don’t have that setting on.

The accessibility setting is about behaviour when the screen is already on.

Can’t explain why this doesn’t work for you all the time OP.

No it doesn't. If I want to just turn on the screen without opening/unlocking the phone. I press the power button, not the home button.

With Touch ID 2 if you press the home button with default settings it will jump to home screen directly. This was not the case with Touch ID 1 where it was slower to unlock.

If you want to view your notifications use the side button or raise to wake. If they are hidden just rest your finger on the home button to “unlock”.

Not sure why it stays at the lock screen for you if it worked before. Older Touch ID you had to press and wait for it to unlock. If you just pressed and released quickly it would just wake the screen.

When I had the 7+ if I wanted to unlock but not go to the home screen I’d take advantage of the Raise to Wake feature and lay my finger on (not press) touchID

I’m having the same exact problem on my iPhone 7 Plus. It was fine until I upgraded to iOS 12. It does the one press unlock and open about 50% of the time. My wife’s iPhone 8 Plus is doing the same thing after I put iOS 12 on it.

I even did a clean install on mine, didn’t help at all.

Tried redoing Touch ID?
