    Hi there,

I got an ATT iphone 4 with iOS 4.3.2 and baseband 4.10.01. Is it possible to unlock this phone (redsnow or other) since I don´t use ATT?

The only software unlock for the iPhone 4 is for baseband 1.59.00. You might be able to use Gevey to unlock it, however.

Gevey sells a sim interposer that works for your baseband.
    or
If it is an AT&T phone and not on a contract, have a friend or relative who is an AT&T customer call with your IMEI and get it unlocked.

The Jailbreak for 5.1.1 comes out this week.

What you can do is make a custom NO_BB firmware 5.1.1 with redsn0w, use that to upgrade to 5.1.1
That will preserve your 04.10.01 Baseband and you can use your Gevey with that.

    Download 5.1.1 IPSW from here:
    http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750

Download latest redsn0w, go to Extras/Custom IPSW no select the downloaded IPSW, redsn0w will create a custom NO_BB IPSW.

In iTunes ALT-restore(mac) or SHIFT-restore(win) to restore with that custom IPSW.

Hello..I kind of have a similiar question that I was hoping to get some help with please.

I have a tethered jailbreak on iPhone4, with 4.10.01 BB, with 5.0 software (not 5.0.1 or 5.1.1).... I would like to be able to switch to the untetherd jailbreak, without upgrading BB or software, as I rely on Gevey for unlock. Corona supposedly does not work with 5.0. I do not have any blobs from any previuos versions, as this is the version that I originaly jailbroke.

Basically looking for a way to switch from tethered to untethered jailbreak without loosing my unlock capability.

    Thanks, Joe.

    Make a No_BB IPSW for 5.1.1
Make sure your host file is pointed to Apple, not Cydia
Use Redsn0w to put your phone in pwnedDFU mode
Use iTunes to navigate to your custom IPSW and install it.
Then, re-jailbreak it with Absinthe 2.0.4

Thanks for the info. My only concern is upgrading the software to 5.1.1 Does anyone know if 5.1.1 works with the Gevey Ultra ( the one I have came in a blue package).

I assume there is no way to reload 5.0 anymore, since Apple is not signing this version anymore.

I did a little more research and found that Gevey Ultra will work with 5.1.1 software, as long as I don't upgrade my baseband, ofcourse.

I created a custom 5.1.1 file with redsnow, then placed the phone in DFU mode, using Redsnow, selected the restore of my custom file with itunes, jailbroke the phone with Redsnow (which now has untethered jailbreak) and everything worked perfectly. I left my SIM card and Gevey out of the phone during the restore and I had to use an AT&T sim to activate card, but after I activated the phone, I put my SIM back in, dialed 112 and I was connected. Worked great! thanks again.

5.1.1, 4.10.01 BB, unlocked with Gevey Ultra

Is it necessary to use an AT&T sim during the restore?

No SIM necessary, you do however have to select activate phone during the jailbreak process

Your method sounds very promising.I do have the same Iphone baseband Version: 04.10.01 but with 4.3.5 (Unlocked with Gevey), not Jailbroken..

Do you think i must have an AT&T card to upgrade my phone to 5.1.1 or is there an alternative. ?

And btw there are two versions in 5.1.1, (9B208 and 9B206), Which one did you use for the upgrade. ?

You can upgrade to 5.1.1 with a custom IPSW, than jailbreak with redsn0w, during the jb process select activate phone, than you don't need an AT&T SIM.

    Take 9B208

wifi on iphone 4 without service

I have an iphone 4 that was previously activated with sprint, I was able to connect to wifi without service for a while until now it started just asking me to connect to itunes, I tried to connect to itunes but itunes says phone is locked and needs a password, this iphone doesn't give an option to unlock, can someone tell me how to make it connect with wifi without having service with any carrier

    Hi,
You can unlock your iPhone 4 by Remote unlocking. The unlock is permanent and you can get it from online sites. simpleunlocking.com is where i unlocked my iPhone, check it out!!

CDMA phones must be activated by the carrier (Sprint or Verizon)
They also cannot be unlocked like GSM iPhones can be unlocked.

    novice iphone4 user

Finally, my brother gave me his iPhone 4!!! (iOS version 4.3.3 and baseband 04.10.01.) Using a Gevey SIM to unlock it as it was purchased overseas.

My concern is I want to update to a higher iOS version. Is it possible? Would appreciate any help. Tried browsing here to try and get the answer, BUT I have no idea what firmware, base band and all those snow things are.

Is there a quick guide to know about these stuff? I cant find other threads that explains these things to a simpleton like me. :)

    Thanks for the help!!!!

UseTinyUmbrella to see if any hashes are saved for the phone (or the Cydia home page)

If so, follow TriJet's reply (custom IPSW to preserve baseband)

Will this upgrade trick work today as well?

I see this post is quite old so thought to check if it works today as well?

I have an iPhone 4 running on gevey sim with iOS 4.3 (8F190) with Modem Firmware 04.10.01. I believe the phone is locked to UK 3 Hutchinson (not very sure though). I am wondering if I can Factory unlock my iPhone, or else just upgrade the iOS to 5 or 6 (whichever possible)? Any quick help will be highly appreciated!

If the current baseband works with the gevey sim, just make a custom no baseband upgrade using redsn0w and then you can update without worry using that custom ipsw. If you're not upgrading to 6.1.3, you need to also stitch the SHSH blobs with the custom ipsw

About factory unlock, I'm unsure about that
