Unlock problem

Alright so I installed a fresh version of 4.0.1 on my iPhone 3G, jailbroke it, and downloaded ultrasn0w, and it still says "Waiting for Activation" on the home screen when I start it up. I no longer have a sim card for it. What am I doing wrong?

You need to find an AT&T sim (activated or not) and put it in the phone. If you don't have one laying around find a friend who has AT&T and borrow theirs.

Edit: I take it you used jailbreakme for your JB? Being on a 3g I believe you could have hacktivated with redsn0w to 4.0.1.

Why are you installing 4.0.x on your 3G? It runs like pitch, in my opinion.
Downgrade to 3.1.3 and jailbreak. Find a wifi connection and d/l ultrasnow. Voilà! Unlocked 3G and you don't need an AT&T sim.

This. You need to hacktivate.

I would sell it with 3.1.3 mentioning the fact the it has hashes stored for 4.0.1.? Depends on how knowledgeable the buyer is it shouldn't matter either way.

I personally use an iPhone 4. I'm trying to unlock my iPhone 3G to sell it.
