Unlocked 3Gs in NY stores?

I was told that small NY shops are selling unlocked iphone 3G for around $650. Is this true? Anyone know which stores?

Like small hole-in-the-wall stores that have imported them from Italy or HK, or another place that sells them unlocked by default.

Most likely "hole-in-the-wall stores", but how do they get them so cheap? Hong Kong store sells them twice as much.

I am thinking it's probably either Asian copies, fake ones, or the ones with turbosim cards in them.

Anyone know the cheapest I can get an unlocked iphone from overseas?
