Ok so I called Att today to have them unlock my sim. I said that I jumped into the pool with my phone, perfect because that isn't covered by warranty ;). I said that I got a new sim with my information transferred to it, and wanted to use a friends unlocked phone with it but I wasn't working. Then she asked me for the IMEI, I thought **** they're going to figure out that it's an iPhone, but she simply said ok so that is the iPhone 3GS. I said yes and she told me that thee ms should be interchangeable and can be used with any Att phone. She said that she thinks it is the phone that has the problem.

I was then redirected to apple and they said nothing because I had no warranty and they could just tell me to go to either an apple or Att store to have it activated. So I am thinking that the Att person did not relay the information I told her to the apple employee because it seems like he thinks I have a normal sim and contract.

WTF? Why was everyone saying this could be done because now the only option I have is to go to the Att store and have them sort this **** out.

I will post here what they tell me.

it can be done. i'm using gophone on both my wife and i's iphone 4s right now. $50unlimited plan. maybe the phone is defective?

I HAVE GOTTEN IT WORKING!!!!

The thing that I did was that before I got the new SIM from the AT&T store last night, I unlocked my iPhone. To be honest I didn't know what the hell I was doing. I just follow some instructions from online. Now, I restored my iPhone and it has worked. Looks like the SIM that they gave me wasn't faulty at all.

Yay! :) Sorry that it took so long for everything to work out for you. I guess I was just lucky with my GoPhone business and didn't have to deal with all this complicated stuff.

I went in, said I needed to setup a new Gophone account and only needed sim I had a phone. Got sim, put in wife's not unlocked S and it works just fine.

Worked, I should say. We're both on Straight Talk now. On my 4 and her 3GS. $45/mo unlimited everything can't be beat lol

This is how it's supposed to be done. I don't understand why people buy the go phone with sim when they can just get the sim and avoid the hassle.
