You can buy one right now. Just ask for the Verizon model in the color and capacity of your choice.
That's interesting. If I buy a Verizon model I am by no means attached to the carrier? I can simply put my AT&T SIM and start using the phone?

ALL Verizon LTE capable devices come unlocked. Period. If you pay full price at an Apple store.

No matter how much or how little you pay.

Yeah but if you buy a "verizon" iP7/7+ from BB, Target or Walmart, it will only be unlocked if you use a Verizon SIM to do the initial activation.ALL Verizon LTE capable devices come unlocked. Period.

Both Apple and Verizon sell the carrier models. So if you buy from either Apple or Verizon the Verizon iPhone 7/7+ is unlocked. I think that is true if you buy from the Verizon franchises (VARs) too.So basically:
1) Buy Verizon iPhone 7 in Apple Store and you are good to go.
2) Buy Verizon iPhone 7 in any other store, activate it with a Verizon SIM and you are good to go.
So what is the point of buying an unlocked iPhone 7 when Apple launches it?
In the past, the Verizon model was not always the same as the SIM free model. For instance, for the iP6/6+, the Verizon model lacks Sprint's Spark Band 41 but the SIM free model has it. For the iP6s/6s+ the Verizon model lacks AT&T's Band 30 but the SIM free model has it.So what is the point of buying an unlocked iPhone 7 when Apple launches it?

This year the Verizon model has all of the LTE bands.

So does the Sprint model since they are the same hardware wise. It is just that the Sprint model is locked to Sprint unless you use it on Sprint for at least 50 days and get Sprint to unlock it for you.
This year there is no difference b/t the Verizon model and the SIM free model. That wasn't true for the previous 2 years.

Hi guys,
When will unlocked (carrier-free) iPhone 7 be available in Apple Stores?
Sadly its for online orders only at the moment but maybe in the near future when Apple gets shipments in, may have the in-store pick up option. As it turns out, the official sim-free model is available as of today.

It's the same as the Sprint/Verizon model though, so you really just get the sim eject tool as well.
