Hi - I just got an unlocked iPhone 2g for xmas -

I'm on contract to orange.

Will I incur datacharges for having the iphone on? Is there a way around this? Perhaps turning off the push service - and is this easy to do?

The phone awaits for my return to my flat before i find this out.

any advise would be great

I know in the USA, you could use "Go Phone SIM card" and not incur data charges, but I'm not sure with an Orange contract. Also, v1 iPhone with AT&T had the option of turning off EDGE network and just running off of WiFi...

if you got to settings the 5th option is for data, if you set check manually there will not be a lot of data used ... but in perspective i would really get a data plan because otherwise the iphone isn´t really fun ... :)
plus a lot of apps use quick acces to the internet and i you have no data plan i bet this will get expensive
