I just moved to France and am looking at buying an iPhone with a plan (probably with Bouygues). I won't be here forever and will be moving back to the U.S. in, say, 7 months. So, I was wondering if I buy an iPhone here can I use it or unlock it to be used in the US once I move back?

Pretty sure they sell factory unlocked phones in France. You can use them anywhere.

Same story here, if you want an iPhone you have the choice of five carriers or outright, unlocked purchase through apple.com.au or an Apple Store.

They don't sell them factory unlocked in France, but the carriers are legally required to unlock them at the end of the contract. I think they can make a small charge.

Check with each of the three iPhone carriers what their policies are for unlocking - ie when they will do it and what they charge you. I think I read on here that Orange will do it after 6 months for example.

Can they unlock a US AT&T phone to work on their network?
