I'm a little confused about the conversation of having to restore the phone to unlock it.

Since I'm selling, I should request that ATT unlock it first and then erase all my data? Would the phone still be unlocked for the buyer?

It doesn't really matter which order you do things in.

You'll want to erase all of the data on the phone, so you should do that before selling it.

As long as the unlock has been approved by AT&T (and they've told you that your iPhone is ready to be unlocked), any restore after that point will leave you (or whoever buys it) with an unlocked iPhone.

The unlock is tied to the device, not to you as a customer/user of Apple or AT&T.

Factory unlocked means you have a receipt that shows you paid full price.

Any other unlocking method post-sale is not factory unlocked.

Situations where this might matter, for example, is if you need a replacement phone and for some reason you get a locked replacement back and don't have a receipt to prove you paid full price for the device.

Thanks for the info and the EBay tips. I'm actually going to be selling two identical iPhone 4. Should I just sell them separately?

I bundled an i5 and a 4 and got 1200 but the jackwagon never paid me. That i4 was put up by itself and it sold today for $295 (32g) wich I am of course totally happy about as it's more than I paid for it over 2 years ago. I say put them up by themsleves and see where you land.

I would also not wait for ATT to unlock your phone. Go to one of the sites on ebay and have it done. I had all my buyt one of my i's done this way and they are done in a matter of hours. ATT took about a week to make it happen.
