just got an iphone 5 preorder in, and saw the eligiblity date for an upgrade pushed like to 04/2013. yet, i put the IMEI in twice on at&t's form and both times they said its not eligible for an unlock. isn't my contract complete on the 4s now?

anyone else have this issue?

4S was introduced exactly 1year ago, how can your contract be complete? The eligibility for upgrade is 18 months though.

When I got the subsidized iPhone 5, I renewed my contract. Hence my other one ended on the same line. No?

04/2013 is the eligibility date for the 4S (18 months after you bought your 4S) so it doesn't appear that AT&T has acknowledged your new contract yet. Maybe you'll have to wait until you receive or activate the 5 before your contract renews and the 4S gets freed from contract obligations.

I just called customer service, was nice and all, and got it unlocked.

Confirmed by punching in the IMEI to dev.mk. Will restore in a few days when I have my hands on the device in three days (it's my dad's).

Also seeing if I can get those two $36 upgrade fees waived for two lines upgraded with iPhone 5 preorders.

Between this, 5GB LTE+throttle for $30/"unlimited" grandfathered and being able to keep it while getting a subsidy, $250 credit for doing an "early upgrade" on primary line ($199+250 for 16GB with a new 2 year), unlocking a 4S I bought off Craigslist in January that I swear was still on contract by my gut, I don't see how people can absolutely hate AT&T.

Verizon would have done none to little of this for me. Ocassionally, I get an unknowledgable rep who tells me to "punch in the unlock case code" to my phone and it will be unlocked :/ But that's just luck of the draw. In general, they're great and knowledgable.

So wait, I can get my 4s unlocked now even though I don't have my 5 yet?

I just did. I thought that's how the system worked?

When you order the 5 on contract, that contract is signed. Of course you can rescind it within that return policy, but..
