Unlocking iPhone 3G on iOS 4.1 [5.14.02 Baseband]

So basically my friend just got an iPhone 3G but he wants it to run on T-Mobile. I have done some searching and I found a video on the topic

Everything seems okay but I want to make sure if its still usable/able to work
The last thing i want to do is mess up my friend's iPhone 3G

The iPhone 3G is already running on stock iOS 4.1 and has the 5.14.02 baseband.

Also, would i have to update to 4.2.1 [in the video] for it to work?

This video doesn't make sense. He claims that you don't need ipad bb, but then installs it in redsnow😕

Anyway your only option to unlock is the ipad bb.
