Hi all,

Currently I'm using an iPhone 3GS with baseband 6.15.00 running on a Cydia jailbreak and unlock to use a T-Mo SIM card in my phone. I recently read about ordering an unlock from eBay where you could send in your IMEI number and get your phone unlocked within 24 hours. Has anyone used a service like this previously?

Also, would I have to downgrade my baseband and/or remove the jailbreak to get my phone "officially" unlocked? I don't really know how to go about doing this as I purchased my phone with the jailbreak+unlock already installed.

Thanks!

Just used eBay to unlock an iPhone 4 yesterday. Depends on seller. One seller never provided the unlock. Was only out 4 bucks though.

Would you be able to post which seller you used? And does the iPhone have to be not jailbroken before you do the unlock?

Is your iphone locked to AT&T?
If yes you can purchase an imei unlock for it for cheap on ebay or swiftunlocks also does them for $1.99 each.
You will have to downgrade your baseband since its a good idea to get rid of the ipad bb you installed now.
You wont need to restore, after the unlock has been applied you can just put in your sim and connect the phone to iTunes to activate with the tmobile sim.

Yes it is. Or, it was...Is downgrading basebands difficult?
I also would like to upgrade to iOS6.0 after the unlock since with the jailbreak I'm currently limited to iOS4.1. Does that mean I would actually have to restore it?

OK guys I'm going to do this tomorrow through swiftunlock. Just want to make sure I have everything locked down.

FIRST, watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srrXFHRZH9U and downgrade my baseband on iOS4.1 from 6.15.00 to 5.13.04.

THEN, connect my iphone to my Mac, open up itunes and restore/upgrade my phone to remove the jailbreak and be on iOS6.1. My phone should now be locked.

THEN, order the unlock from swiftunlock with my IMEI.

LAST, open up iTunes. Restore once more and my phone should be unlocked and on iOS6.1.

Correct? :)

It might not be that easy to update to iOS 6.1. Did you manually save your shsh blobs with tiny umbrella or redsn0w?

If not, download the latest version of iFaith (v1.5.6) and run it. Plug in your iPhone 3GS and click "show available shsh caches on server". After it finds it, save them.

See if it marks them as valid or not. If its not valid, don't upgrade or else it'll put your device into a DFU loop (or so I heard).

If you manually saved your shsh blobs, then you should be able to use those to stitch to the ipsw and not get stuff in the soft DFU loop
