So I'm clueless on how to unlock this phone. I'm pretty familiar with how to unlock iPhones on the newer firmwares, but this one is on 2.2.1 and 02.30.03. I don't think there's any simple way to unlock this phone (I've already googled). Anyone know what steps I could take to upgrade to a newer software/modem firmware that's unlockable by ultrasn0w?

I don't really care what software version. I just need it unlocked.

For a 3G I'd say go for 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 and JB using redsnow and then unlock by installing ultrasnow from cydia.
4.+ firmware version for an iphone 3G is a drag so I wouldnt bother.

Just make sure not to restore to the latest 4.1 by accident cause you will lose your unlock.

That sounds good. If I understand correctly, on a 3G I can upgrade to any firmware without having to worry about SHSH's right?

Up to 3.1.3 you dont need shsh's
After 4.0 and higher you will need them also.

But as long as I jailbreak/upgrade using Pwnage with a custom IPSW for a 3G phone then their is nothing to worry about, right?
