I know a lot of people who are on different networks have to have their iphone unlocked in order for it to work, but is there really any reason to unlock an iphone (iphone 4 in this case) if that phone is going to be used on AT&T network? That is assuming not leaving the US and going overseas to other networks. The only other reason i can think of is for a resale. Any input?

You mentioned the only reason to unlock the phone if you plan to stay with AT&T and not travel abroad - resale value. Otherwise, there's no real point to it. Not to mention that a good number of people, including myself, have had problems with Visual Voicemail and other things breaking after unlocking.
