I’ve been using Apple Watches for years, most recently the Ultra. However, I recently got hooked on mechanical watches and really love them. Frankly speaking, I don’t miss the Apple Watch a lot except for its health monitoring: sleep, pulse, spo2, etc. I’m wondering if you have experience with smart devices that can complement a classic watch without looking ridiculous, like e.g. a thin and unobtrusive bracelet worn on the other wrist, smart rings or something new (glasses? 😀). What’s the current tech trend? I purchased a cheap Chinese smart ring and it kinda works but doesn’t look cool and I don’t like the feel either.

make sure to look at recent reviews of the oura ring, they have recently added a subscription to access most of the data, you now only get a few data points for free. When they first came out everything was included.

I’ve been eyeing the oura ring. I like my Apple Watch, but I’ve been starting to wear my old watches again every now and then. I just don’t want to pay a subscription for something I can already get for free.

The only other thing I’ve been looking at are the Withings watches. They have nice minimal watches that have the same health monitoring as the Apple Watch. I’ve researched these briefly, apparently it may not be as accurate as the AW.
Assuming Apple doesn’t come out with its own ring by the time my AWU is dead, I think I might just get one of these.

I’ve gone through this cycle twice now and have always come back to the Apple Watch. I do have the Oura Ring and it’s just not the same IMHO.

I’ve looked at the Withings watches as well, but I just can’t imagine it matching the integration and ease of use of the AW.

It’s definitely tough if you want to wear mechanical watches but value the health and sleep tracking of the AW.

Good luck and keep us up to date on what you decide or find.

I think wearables are the future, and handheld phones will eventually become obsolete. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve left home without my iPhone because I simply forgot it. I’ve been mulling over this idea for a while now, so maybe by 2025. Sure, it would be great if Apple came up with something like this, but I’ll probably be well into dementia by then. 🤷‍♂️

As of late, I’ve been using my AW more like a passive sensing device, checking my health on the iPhone, rather than interacting directly with its touch screen. Not interested in the notifications, apps, messaging, cellular connection, etc. I’ve been only wearing it to collect health and sleep data. With that in mind, I’m wondering how big the corresponding device would be if it didn’t have a display, maybe just a thin bracelet worn on the opposite wrist to the mechanical watch. It would be a perfect solution for me but I guess not many people would really be interested in such a solution.
