I don't know whats up with Epic these days. But things seem to be going downhill for PC gaming, never mind Mac gaming. They seem more preoccupied with getting the game out for PS3 (now done) and Xbox 360 than getting the PC version to work as it was supposed to months ago.
Theres still some quite serious bugs in the PC one. People seem to be deserting the game in their droves and the servers are largely empty now. I hoped it would pick up, but its just got worse instead. Take a look at their forums.. Theres no mention of a Mac port coming any time soon even though it was promised a long time ago.
And don't think about complaining to them about it on there either. Its a real nazi forum. Unless you praise them and generally kiss their asses, they tend to wipe posts and quite often ban people with no warning

Because Epic isnt doing a Mac port. Its Macsoft.

Actually Ryan Gordon with Epic IS doing the port. MacSoft is only the publisher.

Hmm I though he was working for Macsoft...

Anyway, its hard to port such a huge game as UT3 to Mac alone! O_O So please be patient. I'd rather get the game later than have a buggy one

Yeah, that's what I heard too. I play UT2004 ONS on a clan server and they've actually shut down their UT3 server. Their 32 player UT2004 ONS is still going strong and is usually full.

I think I'm still going to buy UT3 for the Mac, just to check it out though.

I think UT3 has a big future, with many user maps and mods, and maybe some new official content too. Not quickly, however, and not AS big as I'd have predicted before it came out!

The changes from UT2004 to UT3 are:

* Numerous welcome gameplay tweaks--such as the Orb, and mimicking play style elements from UT99.

* Updated graphics engine (though I still think Id's engines look more real).

* A minimal story added to the single-player tournament.

* 6 new vehicles.

That's not a lot, but I can afford a UT game every 3-4 years. I'll get it I'm sure. A new Jailbreak is on the way for one thing :) Depending on performance I might wait until 2009 when I get a tower--since the graphics are one of the few things it offers over UT2004, which I still play and enjoy.

Now, if the previous statements come true that the EDITOR is coming to Mac too... then I'll buy ASAP and get modding :) All that pent-up Mac game-modding creativity might add a lot to the UT3 community! I'll start by making weapons--sounds like one of the simpler tasks for learning the ropes.

Last day of spring is almost here and they did say it was going to be released in spring so that means this week?
Come on MacSoft throw us a bone and let us know its status.

I got UT3 (bootcamp) on vista home premium and I can run the game pretty much with every settings maxed out and I get a pretty solid framerate on my Mac (see signature). The graphic engine is very good and doesn't require the latest hardware to run well. It's not as demanding as a game like Crysis for example. The graphic engine is not that new anyway, it was used for the first time for Gears of War on the Xbox360. So unless your computer is really old, I'd suggest trying out the demo and see how it runs before upgrading. Of course there is nothing available for Mac yet, but if you have windows, give it a shot.

The game is really fun. Even though the gameplay didn't change that much since the last game, it somehow manage to feel quite unique. Most FPS these days are quite slow paced compared to UT3. UT3 is a good old school FPS with a lot of jumping, strafing, shooting and things/people blowing up. It is every bit as good as it's predecessors.

Thanks for the review. I still play UT2004 a lot. But mainly I play custom mods, not the built-in modes. I look forward to more mods coming to UT3.

Or if the toolset comes to Mac as rumored, I'll make my own :)

They said "Spring 2008" and spring isnt over yet...

On MacSoft's website it still says:

"THE TOURNAMENT RETURNS TO MACINTOSH® THIS SPRING"

Whoosh. Spring came and went. Summer's nearly gone.

Is it out yet?

Well they announced Gears of War and UT 3 for Mac ages ago, I've been holding back on buying Gears of War for Windows as it's dirt cheap everywhere now, but I think the Mac version is gone vaporware by now.

Nope, spring 08, and yes, they're aware that they're late and apparently "working" on it to release it asap.

lol My post from august 2008..

Anyway, I've got the PC version once Patch 2.0 and Titan Pack came out. Its awesome! :D

Definitely an improvement. Not keen on the GoW style 'enhancements' though, was a bit of a cheap cash in.

That whole Titan mutator thing basically turns it into GoW without a cover system. You can imagine the meeting to discuss this "but growing big is like super cool! and it needs a GoW camera angle shift!", disregarding current map designs completely. I haven't played much since the launch week but almost ever server I joined had that enabled.

Theres been so many threads about this. Including a new one fairly recently..

UT3 for OS X is in the works, thats for sure. When will we get it? Absolutely no one knows. Except perhaps Steve Polge at Epic. Or Ryan Gordon who is the guy porting it to Mac.
If you can get a date out of them, then more power to you!

And yes, with Patch 2 and the Titan pack, the game is much improved  Plus the availability of the game on Steam for cheap has brought in a ton of new players. The sever browser is no longer like a ghost town!

While im here. I play on the Hedsteem servers. Great guys, and I always have a fun time there :D

Oh I see. I don't like the Titan mutator, I was referring to addition of the new content (namely, maps) that was seriously lacking in to original game :)

With Patch 2.0 there are welcomed bot AI improvements (I play offline) and fixes, much more flexible graphics settings, other good stuff :)

Now all I need is Xan model, DOM gametype (the original one, not DDOM from UT2kx) CTF-LavaGiant, DM-HyperBlast and I'll be set :D

I'm to the point of saying "who cares". I'd guess bioshock would be here before ut3 or you could just run boot camp and play better games like fallout 3, far cry 2 or crysis.

Definitely! My desktop PC can't handle some effects well so I can finally turn them down (namely distortions and lens effects) whilst keeping everything else set high. Tis a great new feature that!

I hear ya!
