I have just tried to change the read/write permissions on a file on an Apple Macbook to add a user, and found three user names that I do not recognise:
_avipm
_avqmd
_avuxupdate
They do not appear under Users and Groups in System Preferences.
What are they and are they a problem? if a problem, how do I get rid of them?
thanks.

I'm assuming you've got Avira antivirus? It creates accounts named similarly to these. It does this so it can do background tasks without needing to elevate or ask you for user passwords.

If you don't have Avira or you never installed it ... that's a problem. Quote this and we'll delete those accounts.

OK, thanks. Yes, I do have Avira installed. Before posting the question, I looked in the user manual and on their support site for those terms, and none of them turned up. It would be a lot more helpful if they did include information on this in the documentation.
