Has anyone used the web tool that Apple set up to unregister their number with iMessage and actually had it work?

My work phone died on me and they have unfortunately moved me to an Android device. I was able to disable iMessage on all of my alternate devices and then used the web tool to remove the number from iMessage.

Im still not getting SMS from iPhone users. Ive rebooted my new phone, had one of them reboot theirs, delete and start a new SMS conversation, remove me and add me back into their contacts, etc... nothing works.

Apparently, it may take up to four weeks before your number is indeed removed. I logged out of my Apple ID from my iPhone 4, disabled iMessage, and restored the device. That didn't work. I used the tool a couple of hours later. That was almost two weeks ago and I can still send iMessages to that number. So no, it doesn't work.
