Interesting to see how far ahead the iPod touch was in 2012 with that body structure and overall size. It’s kind of unfortunate to see the iPod not what it once was anymore, given the popularity iPhone growth, but still a stout device that is the perfect companion for me in the gym, aside from the Apple Watch.
So true.

My 9 y/o has been saving this whole pandemic to buy an iPod touch. She’s just earned enough and now all I can think is it’s such an outdated piece of tech shouldn’t I just bump her to a phone?

I’m not going to, she’s too young for a phone, but the pull is strong precisely because the Touch has been so neglected.

So Apple actually thought of using the iPhone 4/4s design for the iPod touch. Interesting. I'm guessing it was too expensive to make.
Do you mean the iPhone 5/5s? Those are the ones with the chamfered edges, and that is what this prototype reminded me of. (iPhone 4/4s had the steel band and glass back.)

I'm ready!

Take my money Apple.

p.s. let us KEEP the headphone jack too. I don't think it's necessary for the iPhone, but I'd love to see a high capacity iPod touch with some more pro level features.

The prototype also has the headphone jack bottom-right, whereas on the iPod touch 5 it was located on the left. Apple discontinued the iPod touch 5 in 2015.
Back to the future continues. There's a reason I didn't throw out those 30-pin cables.
