I'm trying to find if this is a bug that affects everybody so I can decide if it's worth to do a restore or a clean re-install.

The bug I'm encountering is that whenever I flick to scroll and let scrolling momentum going, then tap to stop it, the next attempt to scroll will completely fail and force me to lift my finger and try to scroll again, which in that case works.

It was doing this in public beta 1, and thought it was such an obvious bug that it would be fixed in beta 2, but it seems it was not.

Since I can't find anyone complaining about this I'm beginning to think that it's specific to my install (I did a simple OTA update, not a restore).

Does anyone have the same scrolling bug?

Edit: Fixed in PB 3 and DP 5.

My iPad Air 2 doesn't seem to have that problem. I'd recommend doing a restore then upgrading to the public beta.

Yeah, I also noticed it happening first in Twitter, but latter noticed that it also happens in Safari and even in the settings app.

So, I just restored to iOS 8.4 through the DFU mode, set it up as new and skipped everything I could in the initial setup.

Then I connected to the beta.apple.com page to redownload the iOS 9 profile. I also confirmed that the bug doesn't happen in iOS 8.4.

I re-updated to iOS 9 public beta 2 directly and again set it up as new, skipping everything in the initial setup.

But the scrolling bug still happens in Safari on a clean install!!

I'm really curious to know why this is not happening for other users like moomanjohnny since it is a clean install.

It's possible that the installation is not 100% clean for some reason, despite setting everything as new.

During the initial setup, it auto-populated the Apple ID field with my iTunes store ID (which is a gmail address), I have no idea where it took this information since it is a different ID than the one I used to sign in on the beta page and download the profile (I used my iCloud account address in this case). I did not restore a backup at any point during this process, I guess that some settings were transferred without my knowledge?

Anyway I will now restore my iOS 9 back-up to get all my stuff back, use the feedback app to report the bug and endure it until the next build, which hopefully will fix the problem.

Aw man right now the scrolling thing started happening on my iPhone 6, but only in Safari, Twitter, and Notability. A restart fixed it, but only time can tell if it will come back.

This is what I did with my iPads about two weeks ago: I installed beta 3 through iTunes restore (so it's a fresher install than installing 8.4 then updating) and then added the public beta profile. Then when public beta 2 came out I updated OTA. So maybe that's why I'm not getting the glitch on my iPads.

Finally, some validation! It has been happening since the first DP on my Air 2. (I posted about it way back when, but I didn't receive a response.). It was so annoying I rolled back to iOS 8. I tried DP 3 and had the same issue. I don't know why it affected my Air 2 but not others. Basically, I've given up on even trying again. Since I've grown accustomed to smooth, responsive scrolling, it was getting me very agitated.

It also happens in other apps like PDF Expert 5 and has been around since beta 1.Hopefully Apple will fix this specific problem in the next iteration. Not breaking, but definitely annoying.

In a way I'm glad in way to see that I'm not the only one having this problem. Make sure you all submit feedback so that hopefully the bug will be fixed!

Yes, it's a beta. Scrolling is stuttering and not optimal. Why make a thread about it though?

Because it is not stuttering at all. It is actually really smooth. He posted it because it also effects other apps. He also wanted to know whether he is alone or just something happening to his device. What is your point ? This is the iOS 9 Forum after all.

You also don't need to read it. Or actually in your case. Read before posting. You obviously missed the point.

Scrolling is jittery/drops frames on my iPad and iPhone; happens almost every beta. You didn't need to reply to me, but ya did. We can do things we don't need to do I guess. Discuss bugs and changes in the iOS 9 b4 thread. Opening another thread for one specific problem isn't needed.

As the other poster said, it's a different problem than the usual stuttering scrolling that happens in most early betas. When this particular bug happens, scrolling fails completely, you can drag your finger around and nothing happens.

I didn't find anyone talking about it so I wanted to know if it was something specific with my installation that would be fixed by a restore or if it was a genuine bug.

I also didn't know (assuming it's true) that there was an official thread for bugs as this sub forum is filled with individual threads opened around individual bugs and moderators don't seem to mind.

The thread you're probably referring to is called "iOS 9.0 Beta 4 Bug Fixes and Changes" which to me sounded more like a place to discuss what was fixed and and what was willingly changed by Apple in the latest Beta build. Maybe I'm wrong about this but it was not clear to me.

If you think I'm breaking forum rules, feel free to report this thread using the appropriate tools. Backseat moderation like you're doing is usually frowned upon in forums and usually cause more problems than it fixes.

Indeed. I expect sluggishness and stuttering, but this is a situation where the screen literally becomes unresponsive after an initial scroll. I can literally put my finger on the screen, slide all around and nothing happens. Then, after the initial unresponsive touch, it registers again. Very annoying when reading a long article in Safari, or diving deep into a Macrumors thread ;)

It's just the name of the thread. We make those threads with every new beta / update to discuss them in general...the content of the thread is not limited to just bug fixes and additions.

I'm just wondering if the issue has been solved by DP 5? I haven't tried installing it. Just curious. Thanks!

I had tried the first 2 public betas on my iPad Air 2 and it had issues with safari, Mail and scrolling. Beta 3 is 'almost' release worthy apart from issues selecting some text entry fields in safari sometimes, a page refresh normally fixes that though. The only other odd bug has been on all of my devices with touch ID where it will ask for the passcode as if the device has not been unlocked for 48 hours, even though it has been.
