For those of you who won‘t do the mail in because you are worried about value, take numerous photos of it before you send it in. I take everything from the device, to the sealed package. I have about 15 photos of each phone I sent in this year. If there is an issue with value, I will dispute it. It has never been an issue for me in the past.

If you are worried about them receiving it, take it somewhere that will scan it and give you a receipt when you drop it off.

When I ordered my phone and selected ”trade-in” I was given the choice of mail in trade in or bring it into the store. I selected in store and it was done as part of the purchase process. I also decided to trade in another phone (different purchase) but did not select trade in when i ordered it, and the store did not have any trouble taking my trade-in and then giving me the credit against my Apple Card.

This is exactly what I’ll be doing next time I upgrade.

If you select the mail in trade in option, why are you now going to the Apple store to process the trade-in at the store? What I did was select no trade in option, and the day I picked up my new iPhone i did the trade in deal, smooth and fast, no issues. The problem here is you first selected mail in trade in, and then changed your mind, so really is not their fault
This could have been properly directed at me!

I selected the mail-in trade option, and they sent me a kit. My teenager did the same. When we went to pick up her phone, the lady there said just bring in the old one. We both brought them in a few days later, they inspected them, and then refunded us the max value for our phones. That process was not without its hiccups, but, yay, done. We got credited on my CC within a few days of that.

Days later, we both get emails from Apple stating the trade-in deal was cancelled, because, it said, they hadn't received our old phones, and we were beyond the 14 days.

I chatted with 'Troy' online, and he said to ignore the emails.

This is all FWIW.

So I guess I should have never commented as I had my first issue with a trade in. I received an email stating that my $720 was readjusted to $280 due to cracks and damage to the screen and other issues. I turned down the new value and had them send it to back to me. When I got it back, no damage to the screen other than some very very minor scratches that are not visible at all when it's on. I posted it online through FB Marketplace for $720 and sold it within 12 hours. I guess I am done with trade in unless it's done in store.
