Hi,

Just came in from work and realized I had left my macbook pro on all day and it had ran out of power, just plugged it in and it woke from sleep. The screen below showed up with a light grey overlay, with the bar filling at bottom center over about 10 seconds, i've never seen it before, is it new in Leopard?

sorry about the shoddy photo, from my iPhone 😱

Thats what happens when your computer goes into deep sleep. It only happens if it runs out of battery or if you take out its power source while its sleeping. Basically, all the data that was held in the RAM while the computer was sleeping is stored on the HD when it goes to Safe sleep.
