Hi,

On restarting my Macbook Pro the other day I found my profile was gone from the login screen. After nearly soiling myself, I logged in as root to find my profile's file structure still intact - all files fine. My profile however had disapeared from prefs/users, though strangely there was now a group with the same name as my old user profile which hadn't been there before.

After backing everything up I renamed my old profile file to MyProfile_OLD, created a new profile with the same name as the one that vanished, then copied the contents of MyProfile_OLD into the new profile, overwriting all the default folders.

I then logged out and logged back in to find everything back to how it should have been.

My question is what might have caused my profile to disapear and what measures should I take to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Thanks.
