My brother got his first iphone the day that JBme3.0 came out. He bought the phone, came home, jailbroke it, and was ecstatic.

Ever since, phone has been extremely unstable and he is constantly needing to reboot it. it locks up, it hands, it will, at times, not let him make outbound phone calls, etc. It's a PITA.

What can he do to remedy? Will he be forced to restore? Will he be able to re-jailbreak if he didn't use tinyumbrella?

He can use Ifaith to save shsh blobs :)
Don't update to 4.2.9 under any circumstances.
Then use those blobs to make a signed ipsw of 4.2.8 and restore.
Then use redsn0w to jailbreak. :)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Yeah preferred. But not to 4.2.9

Is the process the same if he is using a PC instead of OSX?

Yes. If he got his iPhone 4 and jailbroke it when 4.2.8 was being signed, then he will have SHSH which will allow a restore to 4.2.8. If he got his phone and it was on 4.2.8 but Apple had already released 4.2.9, he will not have SHSH and will be unable to restore to 4.2.8.

Well crap. How do we figure this out? LOL

I'm not an iphone guy, so i'm not sure. And hes not really either..

If he is on 4.2.8 . He can get blobs irrespective of apple signing it or not..

Phone is on 4.2.8 right?

Why exactly would he need to cook up an IPSW and then still jailbreak with redsn0w?

I don think ifaith makes an ipsw that jailbreaks. It din when I used it.. It has been updated after that. I haven't had a pc in like 8 weeks.. :-/

And he jb-ed his iPhone on day 1???:confused:

IF he can restore to 4.2.8 from iTunes and decline the 4.2.9 update, jailbreakme.com has fixed the stability issues. I had troubles with the first jbme version also but the following Monday release has been flawless.

Nope. He would have to have a previous 4.2.8 backup to restore to avoiding the new firmware upgrade. He should restore his phone to 4.2.9 if not and wait until devs find a new hack.

What are the chances of that happening? a 4.2.9 untethered jailbreak?

Chances are low. Very low. If they find anything it would be used for iOS 5 jb
Also if u follow my steps your phone will work fine .. If no well your wish :)

all i know is, jbme 3.0 really screwed my vzw iphone on 4.2.8. Even the fix did nothing, took a couple days to get over broken sms app, weird itunes errors and many random fixes before i was able to finally get back to 4.2.8 and then use custom pwnage tool for an untether. Id stay away from jbme 3.0 on the verizon iphone.

so is jbme still unstable for Verizon iPhones? my friend wants me to jailbreak it today today while the iPhone is still on 4.2.8

I've had zero trouble with jbme since they fixed the stuck on reboot issue two days after initial release. Now there are some crappy mods along with some really excellent ones in Cydia repositories.. but removing the crap apps is the fix not a different jb method imo. Just like any computer, install apps one at a time and test for stability before dumping so much garbage in there that you can't tell what works and what doesn't. My VZ iPhone 4 is stable as the day I bought it for the last two weeks on JBMe 3.0:confused:

I used jailbreakme cuz i was to lazy to do redsnow. Phone has been up and running on my Verizon iphone 12hrs now with no problems.

mine was good for a day or so before it started acting weird. Not saying yours will mess up, but if i remember correctly comex said some vzwiphones would see problems.
