Redsn0w iOS 4.3.1 Untethered Jailbreak Goes into Beta!

iOS hacker Stefan Essar has passed on his untethered exploit to iPhone Dev Team’s Musclenerd and most likely redsn0w’s Monte will be replaced with i0n1c’s exploit. Jailbreak Monte technique is slightly hard to comprehend by most of the iPhone users.

Do you know what you are talking about? Firmware jailbreak is totally different than baseband unlock.

Assume you have iPhone 4 and if you have firmware 4.0. The baseband on your phone is 01.59 which is unlockable.

Open Cydia from your phone and see if you have SHSHs save.

What firmware version do you have blobs for?
You can go up to 4.2.1 untethered and maintain your unlock if you have SHSH's for that version.

I bought the phone from a guy last week who, from what I undertstand, has always kept it at 4.0/01.59

I tried saving the blobs when I first got it and iSHSH wouldn't do it. Someone here said that apple wasn't signing it anymore. So as far as I know I have no blobs saved. In cydia it shows something about a "pending TSS"

If I understand right I am stuck. I'd love to get to 4.2.1

If you don't have it save, you are stuck. However, you have it pending meaning you will have a 4.3.1. So, wait until the untethered jailbreak comes out which should be soon, then you can upgrade your phone to it and keep the unlock.

The way I understood it was that the blobs will never save because I am on 4.0 and apple is long done with signing it. So if that is right, what changes once an untethered 4.3.1 hits? Thanks again!

There are way of upgrading to the newest iOS without updating your baseband. Use PwnageTool (mac only) or tinyumbrella. Heres the link for tinyumbrella faq to upgrade to new iOS without upgrading baseband. http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/p/prevent-iphone4-baseband-update.html

PwnageTool creates a custom firmware for your iphone to restore too, which wont upgrade the baseband, i believe its an option when ur creating the firmware, but the program is only for mac os. Do your research.

so this post was pretty much a big waste of my time. the only reason im concerned with this 4.3 jailbreak is so that I can get AT&T off my back about using the tethering feature without paying the extra $$ a month and without them taking away my unlimited data

i dont see what the big rush to 4.3.1 is about... especially if you have mywi. the transition from 4.1 to 4.2.1 wasn't smooth for me and still feels like there are some missing pieces since then.

keep in mind that bugs need to be worked out in many tweaks as apple changes a lot in updates and doesnt tell the tweak developers what theyve changed

You still need blobs for the particular version even if you use pwnage to restore to custom firmware.

Pending TSS means that Cydia is scheduled to save your SHSH to the server. Nothing will change when the 4.3.1 jailbreak hits in terms of SHSH. And yes, you are correct, once Apple has stopped signing a firmware you can no longer save your SHSH for that firmware. For instance, currently you can ONLY save your SHSH for 4.3.1 because that is the ONLY firmware that Apple is currently signing.

You can upgrade to 4.3.1. You only need blobs to downgrade the firmware. So, if you upgrade to 4.3.1 and save your blobs then 4.3.2 comes out and you don't like it, you'll be able to go back to 4.3.1

I think you need to do more reading...The reason you can't upgrade to 4.2.1 because;

1. You don't have shsh blob for it. If Apple is still signing for this, then you don't need shsh blob to upgrade.
2. Apple stops signing 4.2.1. Currently, they are signing 4.3.1.

Alright. I see now. It's much more clearer now. Thank you. So when the untethered 4.3.1 hits I'll be able to grab it since apple is signing it and therefore I won't need blobs. And after that I will be able to save them still since that will most likely be the latest that apple is signing.

Thanks again guys. I really appreciate the assistance and info. I use to be so famiar with jailbreaking and unlocking way back when the first iPhone was out. It has obviously changed a whole lot since then!

Im excited to enable the tweak to use the multitouch (4 fingers and what not) for multitasking like one of the beta 4.3's for the ipad.
