Unused iphone 3gs

I have a unused iphone 3gs sitting right in front of me.

Can I simply pop in the sim from my iphone 3g and start using it?

Should I call at&t and tell them I am using a new phone...I haven't ever done that with my crappier phones on the other lines.

I am concerned about the data plan...I don't want any unnecessary charges.

The data plan is the same. It shouldn't make any difference or cause prorations on your bill. Don't worry, it'll be fine. You know it's staring up at you from the table, begging to be activated and used. 0_0

Youll be fine but you might want to change the imei number just in case you run into any problems.
