Back in July, I was trying to buy into the Snow Leopard 'Up to Date' program for $9.95.
The very first time I tried it, the website asked me for my computer's serial number, but I realized I didn't know it (I was on my old computer at this time), so I quit the browser and decided to do it again later when I had the number.
However, the next 5 or 6 times I tried I was redirected to an empty cart when I tried to buy into the program. Even when I looked in my cart, it was empty. Asking around on forums, I found that people had experienced this also, and fixed it buy adding another item to their cart (iPod shuffles were what they were using) and then they would see the Snow Leopard packages in the cart.
I did this also, and saw that when I pretended to buy an iPod, 5 or 6 Snow Leopard packages were also in the cart suddenly. I removed all of them and went back to the 'Up to Date' page and tried to buy it. Again, it took me to an empty cart, but this time I knew there was only one hidden Snow Leopard package in there, so I pretended to buy another iPod to get the hidden Snow Leopard package to show up, removed the iPod, then checked out. I got a confirmation email with all the info about the order.
The thing that worries me is that I was never asked to enter my computer's serial number again. I checked the order number and the ship date still says September, not August. Do you think I should call Applecare? Or are all the up to date Snow Leopards shipping in September? Do you think the fact I never entered a serial number to prove I had an eligible computer (I do) will cause a problem down the road?
