Upon further testing, we have concluded that at max volume, or near it, (we have a big living room) we DEFINITELY think that everything sounds louder and richer with BOTH reduce loud sounds and enhanced dialogue off.

A couple of examples that perhaps you could try: Search for the "Napoleon" trailer in the Apple TV app, and play the "trailer 2". The first scene of the trailer is DEFINITELY louder with "Enhanced Dialogue" off.

The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix, episode 1: The opening sequence narration is DEFINITELY louder with Enhanced Dialogue off.

At very low volumes though, Enhanced Dialogue makes voices clearer.

Very strange.

I think you guys are both correct. I updated to 17.1 last night and tried a bunch of videos, including purchased ones from iTunes. I do not see the enhanced dialog feature. Also don't see it in the video and audio settings.

@ju3rg

I have a first gen Apple TV 4K and original Homepods and the Enhanced Dialogue option definitely shows up.

Have you updated both the Apple TV and the Homepods themselves to 17.1?. Double check just in case.

Also, for it to work you have to make the Homepods the default audio output of the Apple TV.

Ok thanks, switching to standard output worked for me. Not going to be able to use it then, as I don't always want all my TV on full home theatre mode. Also found that Homepods and the YouTube app don't play well together.

This is because Google hasnt added full Airplay 2 support, although the last update published today helps.

You can always pair the Homepods with the Apple TV as default output only when you are going to watch something, and then unpair it when you are done using it. You can do it very quickly from the home app (tap on your Apple TV card and scroll down).
