What is the point of having an iMac Pro and Mac Pro.
My guess is they never intended to update the Mac Pro, the iMac Pro at the top end and Mac mini at the low end were supposed to be its replacement. Then enough people complained that they felt they needed to respond.
[doublepost=1550083200][/doublepost]Agreed, as soon as my SE no longer functions due to software compatibility, it will be my last Apple product.Yawn. This is the most boring pipeline I’ve ever seen from a company this size. So little to focus on, so little is coming to see the light of days.
In the meantime the competition is overhauling their whole line up with better offerings and lowering the prices of their older products (something what’s fair to the customer).
We will probably see same form factor iMacs (with hopefully less bezel and bigger screens).
iPad mini with same form factor according to rumors (if true, it’s a scam).
Incremental updates to software (if dark mode is the defining upgrade to iOS)
At last AirPower probably too expensive for what it does.
And of course the long awaited macPro. The only thing special about that will be it’s price. You won’t have seen such an expensive piece of “art” ever before.

If Apple is able to introduce an iPhone se with an all screen front and same form factor at the same cost (of course better chip inside, more ram and better camera). It will be a hit.
But Apple won’t![]()
Are you new here? All this very fluid and subject to change without notice!![]()
I can see why you're puzzled. The Buyer's Guide says "Don't Buy Updates Soon" yet this article makes no mention of a new Apple TV, only the possibility of a dongle version.Apple TV updates??? I don't know whether to buy one now or not.
It sure is powerful for its size. And I wouldn't want to do without mine. But its content creation abilities are severely limited. The day an iPhone enables me to do my job, (I make the art in the games you play and the Visual Effects in the movies/TV series you watch) I will stop calling it a toy. It's not really even much of a small tool for me at the moment, beyond its photography abilities. Yet even there it is limited.
You can rest assured that IF there comes a new MacPro, it will arrive in October at earliest. You will be underwhelmed for sure and you could build the same hackintosh for a fraction of the price. Also you’ll have no certainty of future support for that MacPro. That’s the cost of an Apple logo these days.If there's no release by June 2019 I think I'm done with any Mac Pro and I've been with Apple since Quadra950. Not even close to the same company, same programming...![]()
I hope you have a "pro" use case and are as dedicated to Apple as Apple is to you because the next Mac Pro isn't going to be for hobbyists. Expect it to be $5,000-$25,000 maxed out. If you make movies for Hollywood you are nothing to be disappointed.
Bet that Mac Pro either comes out in 2020 or comes in 2019 with a crippling MBP-keyboard-esque flaw.
The Mac Pro already slipped a year. I remember there was an interview with Phil Schiller in the last quarter of 2017 where he said "Apple has never been more committed to it's pro customers" (LOL, OK Phil) and to expect a new Mac Pro in the first half of 2018... well, that never happened.
It is beyond ridiculous that they’ve taken so long to release the new Mac Pro! Since giving the sneak peak if their plans nearly 2 years ago.
Pro use case, yes. Willing to pay over $10,000 for a machine that meets my needs, no.
Not that I care anymore. Apple doesn't want high end computer users as customers and they've all moved on. If you're a pro, you can't trust Apple as a source for tools essential to your business and that's been clear since the long wait before the iTrashCan came out. It was painful, but the pros have moved on and are not coming back, ever.

RAM, storage, video, etc will be "modular" in the sense that they are proprietary Apple modules, and I will be surprised if they're not more than 10 times the price of the same hardware from any other vendor. That's a crippling flaw as far as "pros" are concerned.
Running on a Mac is much cheaper than on a PC. All the apps I bought 6 years ago for pennies, still function now without paying any monthly subscriptions. PC is a no go in terms of workload, workflow, networking and it will cost 3 times more in the long run. The needed upgrades are a 4k capable GPU and fast I/O. CPU is ok, SSD might only improve boot time as I see it. A new MP with all the latest tech and ports is a much better way to spend money on.You probably need to ask yourself if your workload absolutely depends on a Mac or could it be run on a PC. If its costing you money to keep running on a Mac then it's time to switch. It not, then perhaps you could upgrade the CPU, put in an SSD, etc, etc to get a bit more life out of it for now.
My gut says there is no need for a new version so don't hold out for anything other than a price drop.. I am looking for a 64 GB 4th Gen used. I have only a 1080p OLED so don't need HDR. That being said I would get the 5th gen 32GB if there were a sale on it. So 64 gig 4th gen used or 5th gen 32 GB on sale are equally good options.I can see why you're puzzled. The Buyer's Guide says "Don't Buy Updates Soon" yet this article makes no mention of a new Apple TV, only the possibility of a dongle version.
