Apple earlier this year signed a deal for a musical comedy starring "Saturday Night Live" cast member Cecily Strong, and now several other major comedy stars have joined the cast of the still unnamed series.

Keegan-Michael Key, Fred Armisen, and Kristin Chenoweth will have roles in the show, according to Variety Keegan-Michael Key is known for "Key and Peele" and "Friends From College," while Fred Armisen has starred in "Portlandia" and "Saturday Night Live." Kristin Chenoweth has been in several broadway shows and films, along with TV show "Glee."

The musical comedy series will follow a couple on a backpacking trip that's meant to reinvigorate their relationship. While on their journey, the couple find the magical town of Schmigadoon, where everyone acts as if they're in a studio musical from the 1940s.

Cecily Strong will star as Melissa, one half of the couple on the trip, while Key will play Josh, her long term partner. Armisen will play Reverend Layton, the mild-mannered religious leader of the town, and Chenoweth will play Mildred Layton, Reverend Layton's wife.

There is no release date for the show as of yet. It was co-created by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, known for "Despicable Me," with Paul serving as showrunner and original music writer.

I hate Apple TV, it's like they want to become Netflix by artificially forcing content down our throats, but I haven't seen any good show there yet to justify the monthly sub.

Every single show on Apple TV+ is a quality program, unlike Netflix. I don't like many of them, but anyone can see that they are high quality.

And Ted Lasso and Mythic Quest are fantastic shows.

What kind of content is being forced down your throat?

Ted Lasso is a great show.

For sure on that. Always looking forward to a new episode dropping on Fridays.

Where is it that you live, that having an Apple TV+ subscription is mandatory, and you are forced to watch it? Because I want to make sure I don't visit there. I like some things on TV+, but I don't want to go anywhere I'm forced to watch things.

Honest question, is there anything that Apple does that is not perfect to you? Like just one thing that annoys you about one of their products or services?

There is plenty of good content on Netflix and much more of it but it's also more expensive. Lets be real, I can't imagine every Apple TV+ show/movie is a winner but nor would I expect them to be on either platform and everyone has different tastes in what they like to watch but it would be hard to believe someone couldn't find a decent amount of content on Netflix that they like.

The only show I've seen a couple episodes of is Ted Lasso and we can finally agree on something. Big fan of what I've seen of that show so far and hope to get caught up on it at some point when I sign up for Apple TV or buy a new device and get the free sub for awhile.

It's one of the lowest priced tv/movie subscription services and still just getting started. Not all content from any like subscription provider is likely going to be everyone's cup of tea but I previewed two episodes of Ted Lasso and it was top notch content for my liking. It's also the only Apple TV + content I've seen so I can't really comment on the other offerings.

I've seen every single show on TV+ and I have liked 3/4 of them, with at least 9 of those series ranking in my top 50 favorite series ever. I like to think I'm a discerning TV viewer and Apple's quality has been insanely great. Even when the premise sounds completely irrelevant to my taste I try to give it a shot and I end up coming away very satisfied more often than not. I can't say the same for my experience with Netflix's original output these past two years (Don't get me wrong, the Netflix heyday of Mindhunter, Stranger Things, and House of Cards was good times).

My TV+ Standouts in no particular order:

Mythic Quest, Servant, Home Before Dark, For All Mankind, Ted Lasso, Long Way Up, The Morning Show, Little America, and Home.

Central Park and Trying are excellent too, but (for me) a step down from the heights of the aforementioned.

Sure. I've been here a long time and have posted numerous complaints about their butterfly keyboards. I have posted numerous complaints about catalina and its support of SMB. Back in the day I had numerous complaints about graphics chips on MBPs.

I complain when complaints are necessary. I don't lie and say "apple tv sux!"

And btw, I didn't say netflix has no great content. I said everything on Apple TV+ is QUALITY (even though I don't like it all), whereas NOT everything on netflix is quality.

Did you try either The Morning Show or For All Mankind? I think they are both great. I have enjoyed Ghostwriter, but it is mostly a kids show (I will watch kids shows to see if they avoid the two most common problems - treating their subjects as stupid vs. just inexperienced, and having diverse casts that do not feel natural, just box checking. It avoids both problems. It has a diverse cast that one does not think about for even a second as it makes sense why each character is there.)

Having said that, I do agree that Ted Lasso is outstanding and Mythic Quest is a lot of fun.

I'm not familiar with any of the actors.

Keegan-Michael Key has done some great shows and some great sketch comedy. Search YouTube for White Zombies and How to Tell if Someone is an Alien Imposter.

Kristin Chenoweth was one of the leads in Wicked on broadway.

I only gave it a chance after reading a review on LoopInsight.com it just did not seem likely that I would like a sitcom (I do not like most), written by Americans about Soccer. I am so glad I read the review as I cannot wait for the next episode each week.

Quality is not necessarily interesting or entertaining. apple's shows are well produced but sorta dull. at least the ones i've watched. i'm caught up with ted lasso and every joke is flat, it's endearing and light, kinda good but i wouldn't say great.

Not disagreeing with your first and second sentence. But ted lasso is a delight. As is mythic quest.

For all mankind is my third favorite atv+ show, and morning show is #4. But unlike the comedies, I don’t find myself waiting anxiously for new episodes.

Haven’t watched much of the kids shows. I watched all of See, and found it meh. My recollection is that the other dramas I tried an episode or two then gave up.

In my defense you stated "Every single show on Apple TV+ is a quality program, unlike Netflix" this could very easily be construed as you saying every show on Netflix is garbage, which simply isn't true, and subjective as well. One person garbage is another persons treasure.

At least we can agree on loving the Lasso. ;)

Ok. Sorry, I was pretty careful about the way i phrased it, but i guess it wasn’t clear. Netflix has some good shows. And also a lot of terrible shows that look like they were thrown together in someone’s garage.
