Apple this week signed on several new cast members for "Foundation," an upcoming Apple TV+ series that's based on Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" novels.

Lee Pace and Jared Harris have already been cast in the key roles of Brother Day (the Emperor of the Galaxy) and Hari Seldon, respectively, but now Apple is filling out the rest of the roles.

According to Variety, Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey, Laura Birn, Terrance Mann, and Cassian Bilton have joined the "Foundation" series as series regulars.

Asimov's "Foundation" series follows a psychohistory expert and mathematician Hari Seldon who is able to predict the future. Seldon creates a group called the Foundation to preserve humanity's collective knowledge ahead of the impending fall of the Galactic Empire. There are multiple novels in the "Foundation" series that span many years and cover the rise and fall of multiple empires.

Llobell will play Gaal, a mathematical genius from a repressed planet, while Harvey will play Salvor, a protective warden of a remote outer planet. Birn will play the roll of Demerzel, an aid to Brother Day, Mann will play Brother Dusk, the eldest member of the ruling family, and Bilton will play Brother Dawn, the youngest member of the ruling family and Brother Day's successor.

Once casting finishes for "Foundation" it will move on to filming, which suggests we can expect the show to premiere sometime in 2020. There's no word yet on a potential release date.

Apple TV+ is available now for $4.99 per month with TV shows like "The Morning Show," "For All Mankind," "Dickinson," "Servant," and more.

Is it bad that I've heard of exactly none of these actors?

That said, I'm definitely looking forward to the series.
Jared Francis Harris is a notable English actor from the Sherlock Holmes movie and the HBO miniseries Chernobyl (in which he was fantastic). Most of the others are unknown, which can often be a good thing; it’s nice to get new faces and talent in the mix.
I think this has the potential to be a HUGE world building show!

Terrence Mann is the excellent villain character from Sense8. If you have seen that show you will instantly recognize him. I don’t know the other 4 new additions - they are new actors (and Cassian is known for international work).

His name sounded familiar. When I looked him up I found that I had seen him in the Broadway revival of Pippin. Also Sense8 and several films.

This is the show I am most looking forward to, by far. I re-read the whole series (along with the related series I won’t mention, to avoid spoilers :) about once every 7 or 8 years.

Speaking of world building, Jared Harris also appears in The Expanse.

Are you subtly trying to put down these actors, or are you demonstrating shame at being ignorant of them? It's hard to tell.

I'm quite familiar with both actors. Jared Harris is particularly notable; from, for example, major roles in Mad Men (Emmy nomination), Chernobyl (Emmy nomination), The Crown, and The Terror; as well as smaller but notable roles in The Expanse, Fringe, and others. If you don't recognize his face, you probably don't watch much quality TV.

Lee Pace is most notable as one of the male leads in Halt and Catch Fire, but he has also had a number of supporting roles in some notable films (The Hobbit series, Guardians of the Galaxy...).

And, may I put in a plug in form IMDB as a great resource when you are not instantly familiar with an actor's name?

He was fantastic in his recurring Fringe role.

There’s an oxymoron.

I agree with the list minus mandalorian. I rate most of the Apple originals higher than it.

Just a minute, author of this article... where are you getting all this "Brother Day" and "Brother Dusk" stuff from? I seriously hope you've misheard something or have just plain got it wrong, as there are no characters in Asimovs Foundation series by those names. Certainly not the Emperor at the time of 'Foundation' - The Emperor at that time was Daluben IV.
If not, and those behind this TV production are responsible for these new, non-Asimov characters, then it's already doomed and they should stop right now. Hell, why not have a few car chases, giant space battles and zombies while you're at it, and a few super heroes too. Or you could just read the damn books. It's not like Asimov could actually write a story or anything.
Perhaps we'll and up with "Foundation: Gaal Dornicks struggle to assert her gender identity while battling evil zombie aliens intent on destroying the Earth!"

FYI: I first read 'Foundation' in 1979.

Well, wearing ignorance of something as some sort of badge of honor is an odd look. There are some genuinely great shows out there - sure, most of TV is dross, but that's the same situation in every medium. Of all the ones on that list, I'd suggest The Good Place. It's the least dramatic of the lot, but when was the last time you saw a comedy seriously exploring the themes of philosophy and ethics? Surprisingly entertaining.

So I’m ignorant because I don’t care for TV? I’m not sure if I should report this or just ignore you.

Calling people ignorant because you have a different perspective on TV. lol.

"Ignorance is a lack of knowledge. The word ignorant is an adjective that describes a person in the state of being unaware, and can describe individuals who do not deliberately ignore or disregard important information or facts, or individuals who are unaware of important information or facts. Ignorance can come in three different types: factual ignorance, objectual ignorance, and technical ignorance."

Being called ignorant is not an insult, though it has come to be so in modern parlance, but this is wrong.
If you are ignorant of Actors X, Y or Z, it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you - just that you lack knowledge of them. If you do not know of Jared Harris or his work, then you are, by definition, ignorant of Jared Harris. I am ignorant of the Kardashians (whoever they are) and Kanye West (whoever she is), and this is widely regarded as being a Good Thing. Calm down!

He clearly used the word as a dig. “Badge of honor”.
But whatever. Not worth the time.

Report for what, exactly?

You made an assertion that quality TV was an oxymoron. It was pointed out to you that there are a lot of quality TV shows available. You replied showing that you were happily ignorant of said programming ("never watched it", "never heard of it", repeated numerous times). That puts your original assertion in a rather unfavorable light - pretty indefensible. I pointed out this fact to you. And you feel that's worth reporting for ... what, exactly, again?

Perhaps you think "ignorant" is just invective, and you don't actually know what the word means?

Given that you purport to never have heard of, or never have watched, many of the critically and popularly acclaimed shows on my list, perhaps you shouldn’t be making snide remarks about “quality tv” being an oxymoron. If you choose not to, or otherwise fail to, educate yourself about a topic, why offer your opinions on it?
