I don’t see why. The only real drawback to the current iPad mini is that it doesn’t have promotion. It doesn’t have any performance problems.
Which would largely be solved if the iPad mini had ProMotion.#2 -- jelly-bean scrolling is a real drawback for many -- and is a performance problem!
Because most kids in the US can't afford to haul a $500+ tablet around, lose it and replace it.Air is the sweet spot in the iPad lineup. I have a Pro and never use it's fancy cameras. And sorry it's no laptop replacement or ever will be. Need to stick to being a killer tablet for reading, note taking, creativity, portable consumption, gaming, etc. The iPad needs to shine on its own, not be a laptop replacement.
Seriously my kids still have a heavy backpack full of books. Can someone explain to me why all textbooks aren't on the iPad yet???
For end users, it's way too powerful, for Apple, using the same chip for more devices is betterMakes no sense.
The M1 is overkill for iPadOS currently.
They needed it to enable the calculator app but testing was inconclusive so they scrapped it last minuteAnd probably still no calculator. Embarrassing.
With a mouse and keyboard the product would work just like any other Mac, but being able to open your photo editing or artistic apps and using the pencil, or playing the games that were built with touch in mind that now actually run on the Mac and then switching back. I’m not disagreeing for the sake of disagreeing. I think it’s a missed market. A market that Microsoft stuffed its fingers into a long time ago. I know we won’t get it, but I’m not giving up hope that Apple might just let us have it.Apple doesn’t care about cannibalization, if they don’t do it, others will (and they’ve showed that a lot of times in the past). The real reason is that macOS on an iPad would provide a bad experience, so it wouldn’t be a money spinner at all. Of course, you can disagree, but I honestly think that’s the reason - and it makes sense if you look back to the history of tablets.
Look, Apple already has most of its SoC production from TSMC for the A15, used in the iPhone. I'm sure they could have diverted some of that production for the iPad Air 5. That's why i'm surprised Apple would use the M1 SoC on the iPad Air 5.They only way I do believe this rumors is supply constraints. With the chip shortage, and how Apple likes recycling parts, this could be a fix to a problem, while making it out to be a feature enhancement. Because it was obvious with the iPad Pro and it’s OS it’s not something Apple planned for. Which might end up good for consumers forcing Apple to go the route of unifying Mac and iPad OS.
Following your logic, than all iPhones' A SoC series will be replaced by M series.Tech advances always filter downward. If an M1 goes into the iPad Air then it’s a certainty the Pros will soon get M2.

I know. I’m talking about an iPad like device running MacOS.Mac is not defined by a mouse and a keyboard, it's MacOS. Unless the iPad runs MacOS, it's not a Mac but an iPad.
And that would be an iPad Pro. This is a weird rumor.iPad Air: M1 Chip + Pro-Motion + Mini-LED display would be an instant buy for me.

Put down the pipe
Well … didn’t age well, eh?Who the hell is coming up with these rumors the last few days? Am I the only one who thinks most of the stuff coming out the last few days has just been complete bull? I mean half of this sh*t doesn’t even make sense on any level.
That’s true, it was just a guess. Maybe they’re thinking they will sell more iPhone SE which use the A15s?Look, Apple already has most of its SoC production from TSMC for the A15, used in the iPhone. The heightened refresh rate would compensate.Isn’t the problem just that they mounted the screen in the “wrong” orientation (so that it refreshes orthogonal to the scrolling?) Don’t see how promotion would help with that.
iPad costs $325. One high-school textbook costs like $75.Because most kids in the US can't afford to haul a $500+ tablet around, lose it and replace it.
It's barely noticeable at 60Hz. It would be just about the same as the iPad Pro in portrait at 120Hz. No one complains about the iPad Pro having jelly scrolling (well partially because using an iPad mini in portrait is more common than using a larger iPad that way.) I have to concentrate to see the jelly effect and it doesn't bother me. Others seem hyper aware of it and have more trouble.Isn’t the problem just that they mounted the screen in the “wrong” orientation (so that it refreshes orthogonal to the scrolling?)
