Real question, in this age of online ordering, who doesn’t already have that app?

Does anyone else prefer to pick up in store as well? I always love the buzz in the Apple store even though it's a little chaotic. Maybe i feel like its a bit anti-climactic to just open a brown box at home and there it is. Either way i'll be reserving mine to pick up in the local Apple store

No, I want to avoid the chaotic crowds at an Apple store, when I can just have the phone delivered right to my house, save the fuel and mileage, AND have it in my hands almost immediately by the time an Apple store would open. I don’t need a venture to an Apple store to do what you’re referring too.

Now that mention that, if I was going to preorder this year, I would pick up in the Apple Store. I love the buzz surrounding the iPhones and Apple Watch.

Ha! Sometimes I pick up my new iPhone at the UPS hub when it opens at 8 am on launch day, then drive over to the Apple Store (it's not far) and set it up via iCloud backup on their fast wifi so that I can experience the camaraderie/buzz. :)

I did that for the X and had people offering to pay $1300 to get my device.

How do y’all pick it up at the hub? Mine always show as on vehicle for delivery before the hub opens for customers.

You sign up for UPS 'My Choice' (I think this the way, at least it used to be), at the UPS site. Then you can specify change of address, to UPS stores or hubs. UPS stores may take an extra day, but the HUB you can get it very early in the day, same day as home delivery. My UPS driver used to show up as late as 9PM! (I know, this is extreme :D ). So I choose the hub. Also, it's close by.

I have My Choice (and the FedEx and USPS versions). I haven’t ordered since the 6+, so that might be my issue.

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, after I get tracking info, and the device is stateside, I choose Hold for Pickup in my MyChoice account, and then I choose my local hub, aka Customer Center, as the pickup location. There have never been more than 10 other people in line when I pick it up at 8 am. My driver usually doesn’t get to my house until about 1:30.

I’m guessing it’s the one up on Northside Drive? If so, I’m totally doing that this time. UPS gets here around 2:30 during the week.

I wish I had a 1:30 delivery

They always show up late no matter where I live. Back when I ordered the 5S they showed up at 8:30pm

Started picking it up myself ever since.

It used to be the Northside Dr location: that’s where I picked up the 6 Plus. Since then, I’ve picked them up at the new Independence Pkwy hub off of 170: UPS routes all of my packages through that hub now since it’s closer to my house.

That’s pretty cool. Mine still go through Northside, but at least you’ve helped me solidify my plan. Hub pick up it is.

I remember getting my iPhone 4 two days early in 2010, plus I had an extra reservation at the Apple Store that I gave to my cousin. He waited in line all night and I met up with him in the morning so I could claim the reservation for him. When I showed up... I wanted to record video of the lines. This was the first iPhone to have 720p video recording. LOL. Anyway... people noticed I already had it and were approaching me asking to play with it. I had to decline. I didn’t want strangers handling my phone. Plus... what made it worse is that I happened to wear a blue polo shirt that day... that looked very similar to the Apple employee shirts! Anyway... here is a video I uploaded to YouTube:

With UPS mychoice like it was mentioned but also stalking UPS and tracking by reference to get your tracking number early and as soon as it hits the states making a change for UPS to hold it at the nearest hub.

Here in the UK, my launch day iPhones from Apple always came via UKMail, not UPS or DPD.

They offer a 1 (might be 2) hour delivery window, which they would email about an hour after the phone was delivered.

The only thing they were ever good at was being crap.

Not sure how that works in Canada but that'll be something to look into. Unfortunately it looks like i have a large transaction closing the following Monday and may not have time to pick it up in store. I'll likely have to have it shipped to the office. At least i know i'll get it by 5pm, UPS usually delivers anytime between 11-4 here.

Good that you declined. I wouldn't want my brand new device all grubbied up by others. They'd probably drop it, too. Reminds me of this poor guy...
